Overcoming Procrastination: Solution Tips

Letting get through to you what you read about overcoming procrastination, is the start of all solutions to end procrastination. Not only as knowledge, but as something that is about you. Otherwise you would not read this, isn't it?

So take notion of every sentence, ask yourself what you feel when reading it.

If you feel resistance, it is likely that you need what is said and that you should act upon it. You feel that resistance, because what you read asks from you that you change and in the beginning, changing always go simultaneously with resistance. And what you resist persist, you know that.

In order to change, the first thing you should do is acknowledge this habit and accept it. Then you are able to change it, to make a new habit.

If you think about yourself as a person who lacks will-power, who hasn't any discipline, treat yourself well, be kind to yourself. Work at least one hour a day toward your goal and start daily at the same time.

This is important to develop discipline. If an hour is to much, start with half an hour. If this is going well, expand the time by working longer or work twice a day the time you set first.

  • The goal you have set yourself, is that a real goal, a real desire of you or did you only devise this goal? To achieve a goal of the last kind, you might feel you have to work very hardly.
If it is a real desire, you will spend the same amount of time on it but most of the time you don't experience this like working because of the pleasure it gives to you.
  • Is the approach of achieving your goal one that fits you? Are there other approaches possible? More enjoyable, pleasant, amusing ways, that better fits you?
  • Break your goal in small subgoals. Imagine how it looks and feels when you finished the first or next subgoal. You can use this approach even with small tasks where you don't look forward to. Imagine how relieved or proud or happy you would feel. Act immediately when you get the right feeling.

Ending procrastination

A good tool to work on overcoming procrastination is to start a journal, if you didn't already. List all inner and outer obstacles. Writing down the obstacles to reaching your goal can help you to become more aware of what is getting in your way. Being conscious of the difficulties helps you to find creative solutions.

Write down in your journal anything negative that comes into your mind. This will help you to release these feelings. If you find that the negative feelings you face repeat over and over like an obsession, consider professional help. The same obtains if you face deep rooted limiting beliefs that are in conflict with your conscious goals.
